MISSION FIELD: Week 83 I Want A Sandy Christmas . . .

                                                          15 Dec 2014

Hello Everyone!!!

Well, this last week was a good week for us here in the middle of the ocean.  I will let you know one fun announcement, so yesterday (Sunday), Interpole was here on the island and arrested some Italian, that was apparently like the most wanted or something.  So, I probably said hi to him once or twice, fun stuff huh?

Well in other news, we are doing great here always learning.  This last week we had some good lessons and found some young men and they are fun to teach.  This branch here needs more boys to help out.  This last week, I was studying a talk by Bruce R. McConkie and it had something in it I liked.  It went like this, "if we can't follow God in the small things, then how will we ever follow him in the bigger more trying things?"  It's so true!  That the more we follow, the more chances we have to grow and do better.  This is the church of God.  He is our leader and if we follow, we will be blessed.  Jesus Christ is our Savior and the only way we can have salvation!!!

I love you all and have a great week!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 82 It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas at all my San Dunes . . .

                                                            8 Dec 2014

Hello family!!!
Well this last week was good one and we had some great lessons.  So, this last week, we had the chance of talking to a new family, that we found, and man, they are cool.  The wife was asking us why there is death in the world and where we are going after this life!  We were just like, 'Well, as a matter of fact, we can help you with those wonderful questions!!!'.  haha  It was so good we had just a good old time, talking and learning with her and her husband.

The teaching is going really good this week and was honestly one of the better weeks of this transfer.  We are doing good here and seeing small tender mercies of the Lord everyday.  The Lord truly blesses all his kids.  When we have trials, it is so we can grow and become better.  The Lord doesn't want us to just endure the trails, but to learn and grow, then we become better people as we do that and become more like Christ.  During this time of year, we need to remember the great gift that we have been given, that gift is Jesus Christ whose birth we celebrate at this special time of the year.  I encourage all  to visit the site http://christmas.mormon.org
watch the video, then share with others.

I love you all and have a great week!!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 81 Hello, Everyone!

                                                             1 Dec 2014

Well, Family it will be a shorter one,

This last week was a super normal week.  We really just taught and tried to find people.  I learned this week that the Lord will always do what's best for us, so that we can grow and become stronger.  He will never leave us even when everyone else does.  He is the only thing that never changes and and is always there for us.  His hands are always out stretched and ready to lift us up.

This is the little that I will write this week and I hope that we all learn a little from it.

I love you all and have a great week!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 80 Happy Thanksgiving!!

                                                         24 Nov 2014

Hello, Everyone!!

This last week was super fun.  We had some great stuff happen here.  So, we started off the week slow, but on Wednesday, we were able to fly to Praia, (a long 7 min ride), then, we were able to have zone conference.  WOW, was it good! It was about consecration and how we can go and become closer to Christ, through giving him everything.  But how do we actually give everything, when everything we have is already his?  We are just renting it all!  Well, everything, but our agency, the only thing in this world, that He cannot take, but that he wants the most.  When we give that to him, we are really giving the gift we can.  It was such a great meeting and I enjoyed every minute of it.  It's amazing how the gospel helps us in ways that we don't even know, and how we are all prepared to receive things of God.  He lives and love us.  That's why we are here, so we can progress and become heirs to His kingdom.  I love what I do and I do what I love.

P.S. the volcano on the island of Fogo blew up, but we are all safe.  It shall be another fun week!!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 79 What A Week!

                                                             17 Nov 2014

Well, I have had a crazy week here.  So, we started off this week a little crazy.  Some people got offended because of some things that were said in church and wow, it really affected the branch.  Satan is really trying to get into this branch and destroy it.  So, we are really trying to give all we have to help the branch and keep it from falling apart. BUT, we are learning.

I'm really learning about sacrifice, and I would like to share a few thoughts that i have had.  So we have been looking at talks of the apostles and profetas (prophets) about what it really means to give your all to God.  We all think that, oh, it would be hard to give your life for something, but I think it's the other way around.  It is harder to live this gospel, than it is to give your life for it. We are tried at every turn and given the chance to learn and grow or fail and try again.  Life is hard, but it is through the atonement of Christ, that our trials are made light and that we can have happiness.  Look at the talk by Elder Christoferson, from the CES fireside, in October.  He give us a real good look at how we can save our lives, by sacrifice and giving our all to the Lord.  We are here to learn and grow and it is though sacrifice that this is possible.

I love this work and know that it is true. I know that the Lord lives and loves us.  I have felt his love and know of the love he has for all his children, and he wants all of us to feel that love.  It's our job to help them feel it and that is through us, inviting them to hear that word of God.  Remember, the love that we feel and give it to others.

MISSION FIELD: Week 78 What A Good Week!

                                                          10 Nov 2014

OK, so this week was full of tender mercies of the Lord.

So, I will talk about some of them.  First, was that we had President Mathews and his wife come and visit us here on Maio.  Super nice!  We had interviews with him and learned a little bit more about what we can do better at and then, they left back for Praia.   The week went on and we couldn't find Cisse, who was going to be baptized on Saturday.  Then, Saturday afternoon he calls us and says, 'Elder, when am I getting baptized!?'  We were like, 'What the heck, is this real!?'  So, we talked to him and he was already had the interview, and he was baptized on Sunday morning in the ocean.  The baptism in itself is a story.

We had one of Cisse friends do the baptism.   Well, he was super nervous.  THEN, he throws him in the water and just jumps away and says YESSSSS!!!  Well, we had to do it again and elder Camargo got in the water to help.  Ha ha!  It was super funny, so then after a few more time we got it.  All good, and then we all noticed that my name tag was gone.  Well the water took it and so we spent some time getting it.  So that was the best part of the week.

I hope you all know that miracles happen and that God loves us.

MISSION FIELD: Week 77 The Lord is Good!

                                                           3 Nov 2014

Well, this week was a week of small miracles here in Maio.  We decide to go and see a reference, that we received.   They live in a place called Morrinho.  It's pretty nice there and we went and saw him.  He was super happy to talk and we taught him and he said, 'When can I get baptized?'  So, we marked him for a few weeks from now.  Then, he goes and asks if we want to talk to some of my friends here and we said, 'YES!'  and so, in the little time we were there, we were able to teach 4 guys, that live there.  It was so cool to see how the Lord prepares people to hear the truth and helps them accept it!

Then, here in Villa, we are getting some guys ready to be baptized, so it should be good here in a few weeks!!  We sure are ready for them to be ready.  The Lord truly blesses his kids and we are lucky enough to receive those blessings.

Have a great week and remember all the Lord has done for us all.

MISSION FIELD: Week 76 Hello Again, Everyone!

                                                        27 Oct 2014

Well, Everyone!!!!

This week was a fun week, nothing really big happened, but just small miracles throughout the week and blessings out the wazzooooo.

We found some really good people this last week and we marked a few date for them and they are progressing very well.  Cisso, from Guinea, is doing great and decided that he wouldn't smoke anymore and is quitting.  He has gone 5 days now!!  He said to me, "Elder, its just a decision and you can't change you mind, if you want to follow God.  Super cool guy and he will be so good for here.  It's super nice.  We also are working with a kid named Se.  We are getting ready to be baptized.  It will be fun to see his progress.

But that's about all that's happened this last week.  We did go fishing this morning.  Caught and released an octopus and a puffer fish.  Super cool!  I hope everyone has a great week and I love you all!!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 75 Well, One More Week Down... 5 months to go:)

                                                 20 Oct 2014

Well, this last week was super busy here in the mission, full of stuff that we needed to do and teaching.

So everything started on Monday.  I was walking in the road and some guy from the court came to me and said I was getting summons in court for something.  And I was like, 'What the heck!?'  So, we went to the court house and well, I found out I had to go see some judge about something.  They didn't say very much about it, so that night, I called up the Mission President and was like, 'I have to go to court for some thing', and he said 'Okay, I will call some lawyer in Germany'.  Then, the next day, I was talking to the lawyer and finding out what was going on.  I found out that it was about, when our house was robbed, they were starting an investigation about it.  I also found out that we have the best lawyer in Cape Verde, so I was happy, but it was all taken care of and I'm all good to go again!:)

Then, at the same time that all was happening, I was trying to get all the stuff fixed for the old house we left.  What a mess!  So, some elder broke a tile on the bathtub and we needed to replace it.  So, I got a guy to replace it and well a little job turned into a big one.  Well, long story short, we replaced all the tile on the bathtub, 'cause it all started breaking, then,  we got the house cleaned and now its all out of my hands, thank heavens.

Then, we started our week and it went pretty good.  Found some new people and marked some dates for baptism including one Muslim!!  Super cool!  He changed lots and he wants to be baptized now.

I hope this week will be great and many miracles will happen.  I wish all of you a great week and remember that when we follow the commandments we are blessed.

MISSION FIELD: Week 74 Another Great Week!! (and picture!!)

                                                          13 Oct 2014

So this last week was great!!!
So, we had some good work done this last week. The best thing that happened was we found a guy named Lando.  He stopped us in the street and started talking to us and he is like, 'hey can we talk in my house?' and we are like, 'ok', but, we went in and we started talking and he just broke down crying.  He said, 'I hate my life and I want to change.'  It was such a great way to start a lesson.  By the end, we were all crying and the spirit was so strong and it was just good.  But then, he was like, 'I feel something in my chest', and he said, 'it feels good and I want more of it', and we said that this is the way that you can have it, by following Christ and keeping the commandments.  He hasn't drank since and he is doing great.  We will see him tomorrow, but such a good week and we all learned from it.

Have a great week and I love you all!!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 73 What a Conference!

                                                         6 Oct 2014

Well, to start, this was a great week!!  We had 9 people in church for conference and they are all progressing great!!  Man, the Lord is blessing us right now!!!  We went out with the branch president, lots this last week and we found so many people!!  I can't wait, for here in a few weeks, when the fruits of the work will start showing!!!

Then, there was conference.  What a great thing we have to listen to prophet and even  have people teach us in other languages!!!!  It truly was an amazing conference and to make it even better, I will be at the next one!!!!!!!  It's so cool!

The Lord is teaching us some much, we just have to listen and we will hear His teaching.  I invite all, to study this conference and follow the prophets counsel.  We are the true church of God, it won't be easy to follow, but it will always be worth it.  The Lord will always give us more, when we sacrifice.  I love this gospel and I know it is true.  As we learn and grow, we should always remember that we do it through the grace and mercy of the Lord.

I love you all!  Have a great week!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 72 Well, What a Week!

                                                            29 Sept 2014

Well, Hello Family,

This last week was super hard, but rewarding!!

So, we had so much stuff happen.  We had a couple get married in the branch, so we were helping out with them out with that.  Then, we found lots of new people to teach and lots of them are prepared to follow.  They just need to know the way, and I hope that because of that, we will have a few batismos this transfer.  It's getting super exciting here and I'm glad the Lord is using me.

Have a great week and I love you all!!!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 71 My Wonderful Week!

                                                                  22 Sept 2014

Hello Everyone!!!

Well, this will be a good letter for y'all.  So, this last week, we were robbed in our house, so we got a new house.  But, I don't have a camera now, so no more pictures.:(   But we are safe and it's all going good now!

But in other words, the Lord has sooo much planned for this area right now and I get the pleasure and privilegio to be part of it.  Man, the Lord is sooo merciful to those that believe on his name.  All He asks is that we believe and have faith and he will be there for us.

Last night we had a lesson that I will never forget and that I learned sooo much from.  First lesson:  the Lord will do things in crazy ways.  We have no clue what and when the Lord will teach/guide us.  We were teaching a kid named KK  and I had the impression to tell him that Ellan White was a member of our church, before she was part of the Adventist church, (kk is an Adventist), and I said it and it completely destroyed him and I felt so bad for saying that, but then, we found out why I said that, 'cause it opened him up to really here with his heart.  I found out later that my comp was prompted to say the same thing, but didn't.  It was super good and he is super real intenção now, so, it is the best.

Second coisa (thing), is that God loves everyone of his children. no questions asked.  During that lesson, I can say, I felt the love God has for KK and for me.  KK wants so much to follow Heavenly Father and will do anything to do it.   The lesson was so spiritual and me and KK were both on the edge of tears.  I love this gospel.  I know the Gospel is TRUE and no one can take that from me.  I know that through the atonement, we are made clean and it is the best, most glorious feeling in the world to be a beloved son of The Almighty God.  I know that Christ lives and that he is pure and holy. THIS IS THE WORK OF GOD.

Alma 26:37  Now, my brethren, we see God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in;  yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth.  Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving;  yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever.  Amen.

I love this and I know it is true.

love, Elder Stratton

MISSION FIELD: Week 70 Just Another Day in Paradise

                                                          15 Sept 2014

Well Everyone life is good here,

Well this last week was a good week.  We were working lots with the members, talking to them about repenting and getting better at being worthy and remembering they are members of the true church of God.

We met lots of new people this last week and I hope they are going to be great investigators.  But other than that, life is the same.   We teach, we preach and we sweat. #missionlife   We should have Chuvinha getting baptized this week.  She is such a good lady, she really does have a strong spirit and wants to do what is right for God.  But that was my week for this last week and this week will be even better!

I know that God and Christ live that the atonement is the only way we can return to live with God again and we need to use it to become perfect. I know Joseph Smith saw Heavenly Father and Christ and that this is the one and only true church on the face of this earth!  I love you all and think of you often.

MISSION FIELD: Week 69

                                                  8 September 2014

Well hello family, I hope this week is a great week for you all!!

Well, this last week for us, was a good week.  We had some good things and bad things happen here.  So to start off with, the good, we have been teaching this lady named Chuvinha ("Lil Rain" is the translation of her name), but, she is 73 years old and a boss of a lady!!  Man, so she was part of the Catholic Church for all her life, then they did something and she was like 'this is not true'.  So, we started talking to her and she is sooo cool.  She is like a grandma and she actually does keep her commitments!  It's sooo nice.  But the best part is that she went to church and she bore her testimony!!!  It was soo cool and I'm happy I got the chance to teach and help her!!  But then, the bad thing here, the Catholic Church had a huge party and got everyone here drunk.  So dumb. And so, lots of new members were at this party and they got drunk, so now we have loads of work to do, cause the members needs some help.

So that was the week, oh and the other good thing!!  We got to start going to another city, that's near by, and start teaching people there.  It's super cool, cause we are the first Elders ever to go there!!  So, we have some good people we are working with there.  But this week will be great!!!!  I'm super excited for it.

Well have a great week and I love you all!!!

love,
Elder Stratton

MISSION FIELD: Week 68 Finally PICTURES!!!!!!

                                                                                  1 September 2014

Well Fam,

I'ts very nice to talk to you all, this fine day and to be able to tell you how my week went.  My week went like this:  p-day and we relaxed and watched waves come in on the ocean.  They were super big and it was really cool to see.  Then, we went out and taught a bit.  The week was full of teaching.  Kind of hard to teach, at times, cause this island is a little, hard to teach, but it's good.  Then we had the Zone Leaders come and help us out for a few days and they gave some trainings and such.  It was super fun to have them here and we learned lots from the trainings.  Other than that, the week was normal and just worked.  Sunday was good.  The members gave some super good talks.  It's super cool to see how much the Gospel will change the lives of people, for the better, and then, they are helping others change their lives, too.  But yup, that was my week and life for the last little bit.

Love you all and have a great week!!

Love Elder Stratton

and some proof I'm still alive :)

MISSION FIELD: Week 67 - First Week on the New Island!

                                                                 25 August 2014

So, this is the only letter I'm sending for everyone this week.

    Maio is Catholic.

And when i say that, I mean slam the door in your face and tell you never to come back.  Yup, that was my life for the past week and it was awesome!!!  ha ha  I love it here.

So, teaching is a lot slower here than any other island.  They had some parties on the beach this last week and because of that there was nobody home from 4 until 8 pm, so it was hard to teach here, but it ended this last week and I think it will be all good now, but we will see!!

Also, the Zone Leaders will be coming here this week, so we should get 2 times the work done which is great!!

Well, I'm still trying to find a place to send pictures at, but until then, I love you all  and think of you often.

love Elder Stratton.

MISSION FIELD: Week 66 Maio Island Transfers!

Hello from the Island of Maio!!!

18 August 2014

Well, this was a very good day.

I was transferred to the island of Maio and I'm in the city of villa.  I'm with Elder Mc Kissick and I'm super excited to be here and it is really cool, cause this is a new island that was opened a few months back, so I'm one of the first here.  It's a super quiet and likable place and my house is like a beach house, so that's even better!!  ha ha  We are you only elders here on the island and then, we have some sisters, but it's just us 4!!

Well, last week was a good week, we found lots of new people and taught lots more than we had been in the last few weeks.  There will be some good people getting baptized in the next few weeks in that area!  It was sad to leave there.  I was in that ward for 8 months, so I knew every member and we just had a good friendship, but it will be super good here.  Hard, but good!

Well, I think there might be someplace here, where I can send some pics home, so you all can see,  but I have to find it first.

Ha ha,  I just heard a county song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Alan Jackson's Chattahoochee I think, ha ha, made my day!!

Well, I love you all have a great day!!
love,
 a very happy Elder Stratton!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 65

                                                            11 August 2014

Hello Family!!!

Well this last week was a good week, we are working with a few families and getting them ready for baptism.  So we should be doing papers for them this week and getting them started on getting ready!!!

We just had the first rain last night which means is will be really muddy in our area from this point out!!!  So that should be fun.

Next week we have transfers and I don't know what will happen, but I hope I get moved to another island for my last few transfers!!  ha ha  But I'm happy and learning lots here, and feeling Heavenly Father closer to me everyday.

Niche will leave for America tomorrow, so that will be good.  We went and had lunch with her today, along with some other Elders that know her.  It will be really fun to see her and her family together in a few months!!  Oh! and her and Eric, her husband, are waiting for me and one other Elder to return to the states, so we can go through the temple with them and see them sealed!!!  I'm super excited for it!!!  And, it looks like they are seriously thinking of moving to Arizona!!!  YES!!  ha ha  It will be great!!

So I'm still in Praia in the area of Eugenio Lima and my comp is Elder White from New York.  But things are going well and I'm getting really excited for this next 4 transfers!!!

We went to go teach those 3 guys we found last week, but they were not there, so we will try again these next few days.

Well, that's about all that happened during the week.  I love you all and have a great week!!!

Hello Everyone!!!

Well, this last week was pretty good and we found some new people, 3 guys to teach. They seem to have lots of interest and I feel like they will progress good. They have dates for baptism in 3 weeks, so we will be working with them lots.

We will be having a Zone Conference this week and getting lots of new trainings from The Church. By the way, The Church is changing everything with missionaries here, it's cool to see.

Niche, my mission mom from Terra Branca, got her U.S. Passport this last week, so she will be going to the States soon with her family. It's super exciting, because she has been waiting for a while.

Well, time it up for the computer, so I have to go. I love you all and will have some members put pictures up soon for me.

Love you all!!

MISSION FIELD: Week 63

                                                                   28 July 2014

Well this last week was a pretty good week!

We are having some good times here. We are working with some good people and trying to find more. We had the zone leaders with us this week, it was pretty fun and I learned lots about the gospel and ways to teach it better. We are working with a few families and we will be marking a date to get (them) married for the next month. I'm excited. They are Julho and Lionil and they are progressing really well. But, that's about all that happened this last week. Well, I hope you all have a great week and I love you all!

Love, Elder Stratton

MISSION FIELD: Week 61

                                                                                14 July 2014

Well just to let you all know,

I cannot wait to have milk that comes from a cow and a really good steak again. Well now that that is out; life, its good here. We had a good week last week. Alex was baptized and confirmed and he got the priesthood.

Then, we had a family night, (aka family home evening), with half the ward and ya its going good.

Yuri, my recent convert from a month ago, wants to serve a mission, so that was cool to find out! And then I found out that 5 of my recent converts from Terra Branca are getting ready to serve missions to!!! YES!!!!! I was super happy to find that out.

But life is moving by super fast here and I have no clue where the time is going. Only 8 months until I'm back home and I'm really not looking forward to it. Leaving this place will be hard. Well, in other news, Germany won the world cup. Lots better that Argentina. Ha ha Yes, I have become a soccer fan. But only for the space of the mission. not after.

Studies are going good, I'm learning new things everyday. It's really amazing what the Lord will do when we leave him in charge and go with what he has planned. That's when we grow the most. Well, I hope you all have a great week and i love you all!!!

love,
Elder Stratton

MISSION FIELD: Week 60

                                                                                        7 July 2014

Well Hello Gent.

So, this last week was a pretty good week.  My comp got sick for two days and then everything went well from that point on.  We met lots of new people to talk to.   Alex got marked with a baptism date for this Saturday and I'm super excited for it.  I have had good time with Alex and have enjoyed helping him become converted to Christ.  I love this people they are my family.

We had an even better day on Sunday.  Our branch was made into a ward.  Such a huge blessing.  It is now the 11th ward in the city of Praia and with that, it means that the stake will split soon.  The work in being hastened and if we don't keep up, the Lord will pass us by.  It's like the ten virgins. Keep the oil rollin' in that pot, 'cause we need lots of it.  Oh! and President Matthews is a man of God.  I'm super happy I get to serve with him and to have him guide us at this time.  The blessings will follow for righteous living and preparing!

Oh, and The Church is true!  Well that is my email for this week.  I hope you enjoyed it!!

love,
Elder Stratton

MISSION FIELD: Week 59

Hello Family,

I hope all is well for you in the states and that you are all getting healthier.  Well life here has changed a lot.  We have a new mission pres and lots of transfers happened.  So I am with Elder White now.  He is from New York and has been here for 6 months.  We will be having interviews with the new pres on Wed.  So, we will be able to know him a little better.  But, the work is moving along great here and I can't wait for this week, to see the blessings the Lord has for us.  Well, look for what the Lord wants you to be, and then and only then, will you become someone better.

We heard this this week -
"It can't be comprehended by anyone, but those that pass through it."

"We can't use the atonement fully, unless we suffer, just a particle of what Christ suffered, then, we will fully respect what Christ did for us."

Have a great week and I love you all!!!

love, Elder Stratton
